Here's the good news part--and this is really good news--God is not only the standard of goodness, he is also the solution to our bad-ness problem. Therefore, we are not saved by how good we are, or how much we do. We are saved by God's goodness, and what he has already done. Since salvation begins and ends with God, God himself has provided us the sinless perfection required to be in relationship with him--for eternity! God, in Jesus Christ, because of His devoted love for us, lived the perfect life we could not live, absorbed our sin and removed it from us, through his human life, death and resurrection. He's the only one who can save us. Best news is, it's a gift...free and clear! That is good, good, good news!
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. (1 Peter 3:18)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.(Ephesians 2:8-9)
But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us, (Romans 5:8)
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
